How To Seal An Indoor Floor With A Water Based Floor Sealer – An Instruction Guide.
Thursday, April 1st, 2010Which Floor Slip Test Is Appropriate For My Floor? And Why The ‘R’ Rating Slip Test Does Not Apply To Most Floor Areas?
Friday, March 26th, 2010
Amongst slip testing professionals it is considered good practice to choose a slip test method that best simulates the likely conditions of the surface (e.g. contaminant and footwear). In the case of a foyer the likely contaminant is water (not motor oil) and the likely footwear is smooth soled shoes (not profiled safety boots). Therefore we can conclude that the appropriate method of testing is a wet pendulum and/or dry friction test.
Types of Slip Testing
1. Dry Floor Friction Test (F, G)
2. Wet Pendulum Test (Z: <25 Lowest Rating, Y: 25-34, X: 35-44, W: 45-54, V: >54 Highest Rating)
3. Wet/Barefoot Ramp Test (A, B, C)
4. Oil-Wet Ramp Test: R-Test (R9: Lowest Rating, R10, R11, R12, R13: Highest Rating)

Learn About Porcelain Floor Tiles and Their Potential Problems
Thursday, March 25th, 2010
Porcelain tiles have been the biggest mover and shaker in the flooring industry over the last decade. The ‘look’ and the ‘go to’ for any tiling project seems to be porcelain. Porcelain is a mixture of kaolin clays, quartz, feldspar, flint and silica. These raw materials are crushed using jaw crushers, hammer mills and ball mills. The bulk mixture of selected clays and minerals are mixed with water and pumped into large, rotating cylindrical mills. Here, the materials are ground into a uniform and homogenous material, the consistency of a milk shake. This material is called ‘body-slip.’ The moisture from the body-slip is evaporated by a spray dryer burner, creating a dry clay powder of uniformly sized fine grains. This dry clay is then put into tile moulds within a hydraulic press, where it is moulded under pressure to form ‘greenware’ (name of the tile prior to being fired).

How To Seal Porous Floors Like Concrete and Natural Stone With The Latest Floor Sealing Technology
Friday, January 15th, 2010
When we think of a floor sealer often what comes to mind is a coating that is applied on top of the surface. These coated surfaces often require more maintenance than the original floor. Visible traffic lanes, peeling, irregular shine and staining are common place despite many floor sealer manufacturer’s assurances. What many people are not aware of is the growing popularity of invisible, impregnating, breathable sealers for porous surfaces like concrete and natural stone. The simplest way to explain it, just like a scotchguard protects your carpet and upholstery, an impregnating sealer protects your porous indoor or outdoor floor. You can’t see it but’s there, protecting the surface from stains and moisture while making it easier to clean.
